Watch memelords were firing on all cylinders during this week, dishing out salty memes, unafraid to tease the brands we all swear fealty to. Whether they were targeting Rolex, Tudor, or the Holy Trinity, they pulled no punches in exposing the good, the bad, and the ugly during the Watches and Wonders new releases. Here are the memes you may have missed while you were drooling over new bracelets, new metals, and new dial colors.
Guilty as charged on this one. Sure, we spent the entirety of last week watching release videos, zooming in on high-res photos, and reading every hot take we could get our hands on. I guess for “normal people” April 7th-13th was just another random week in early spring. Well, we pity those who weren’t glued to their computer screens watching every new release in real time as it hit. You can’t find that kind of excitement just any day.
This meme by Simonzzo pre-dates Watches and Wonders, but we like to think of it as prophetic. Who could have predicted the prominence of yellow gold on the 2021 Explorer II and the 2021 Tudor Black Bay 18K? Simonzzo, of course.
You’re getting ready for a night out. You try on jeans, then switch to chinos, then back to jeans again. This is a metaphor. It’s a metaphor for Rolex making small, intentional tweaks to classic references that have stood the test of time. As a brand that designs straps, we definitely understand the power of making subtle change to a classic watch. Hopefully there’s a little less sweat on your new Oyster bracelet, though.

Look, we’ll always love The Crown. But there’s something about The Rose & Shield that took our breath away with their 2021 Watches and Wonders releases. Sure, we don’t exactly understand a brushed 18k gold case or the hype around taupe, but we don’t really need to understand. Those are questions that mere mortals weren’t meant to answer. Tudor giveth and Tudor taketh away and we’re just happy we don’t have to languish on an AD’s “waiting list” to get a piece of that sexy, sexy Chrono.
It would be impossible to talk about the 2021 Watches and Wonders new releases without discussing THAT Audemars Piguet. It’s an old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words, and this meme from Brodinkee might be worth ten thousand. We’re just not sure Wakanda is rightfully honored with this watch, but we appreciate the attempt on this one. Clearly, it’s already catching on, with LeBron James spotted wearing it a few days ago. Marvel and Audemars Piguet were two powerhouse brands, and we didn’t know what to expect from their first collaboration. They definitely know how to keep people talking…and memers meme-ing.
