Michael Bublé and Rolex: A Perfect Harmony

MICHAEL BUBLÉ: PATRON SAINT OF HOLIDAY MUSIC

Michael Bublé, the patron saint of holiday music and grandson to Father Christmas himself reminds us of his existence every winter, as his buttery honey-soaked vocals pour out of our bluetooth speakers, melting us once again into sappy nostalgic puddles.

His music reminds us of times long long ago, back in the days when it was safe for people to walk through an indoor mall with other people at holiday time. After circling the parking lot for 45 minutes looking for a parking spot, you would enter the glass doors of Macy’s and would be immediately infiltrated with crowds of openly-breathing shoppers and Michael Bublé’s crooning carols over the loudspeaker.

In his rendition of “Santa Baby” (originally by goddess Eartha Kit), he mentions that he’d like Santa to “slip a Rolex under the tree, for me” citing that he’d “been an awful good guy.” As cringeworthy as this oddly masculini-fied holiday classic is, mentioning Rolex wasn’t just a random event.

MICHAEL BUBLÉ'S ENSEMBLE OF ROLEX WATCHES

Few people know that the official founder of holiday cheer is also a Rolex ambassador (or at least a Rolex “testimonee” as they call it). For over 10 years, Bublé has been exclusively wearing a robust collection of Rolex watches, his favorite seeming to be the 50th Anniversary ice-blue Rolex Oyster Perpetual Daytona Chronograph, 40mm (ref. 116506) shown above. The chestnut brown bezel paired with the ice-blue dial is such a stunning combination, and a highly collectable piece.

This platinum Daytona with an ice-blue dial perfectly complements Michael Bublé, as he defrosts every winter to bring us warm holiday cheer for at least 30 days before going back into hibernation. He has been seen wearing this Rolex just about everywhere from the red carpet to playdates, and it still adorns his wrist today in his 2020 Disney Holiday Sing-Along alongside his wife and 3 adorable kids.

Although the Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 116506 is his most favorite, he actually has a whole trio of Daytonas. His other two are the Daytona Cosmograph 116500LN with a snowy white dial and black cerachrom bezel, affectionately known as the “panda,” and the Daytona Cosmograph 116509, which has a white gold case and bracelet with a black dial and ferrari red markers (shown below). Lucky members of the Daytona club like Bublé can enhance the look of their Rolex with a Swiss-Made strap found here.

Also in his Rolex rotation Bublé enjoys wearing a classic black Rolex Submariner date 116610, a Rolex Air King 116900, and a two-tone Rolex Datejust 36 mm. Although the Datejust is a daintier, dressier watch, Michael loves wearing his Rolexes so much he doesn’t even take it off to play a little hockey. Another fun fact about the singer, he is a minority owner in the Vancouver Giants NHL hockey team.

HOW THIS PERFECT HARMONY BEGAN

When asked about his love for Rolex, Bublé shares that after nearly 10 years of constant struggle to get recognized and signed as a serious singer, Warner Bros. Records finally signed him. Interestingly, one of the gifts that they gave him when his first record did well was a Rolex. Someone who has always been a believer in giving back, Bublé actually gave the gifted Rolex to his father as a way to thank him for his support over the years.

Bublé said that his father loved the watch so much that he quite literally never took it off. His mom jokes that, “When he showered he always had his arm hanging out of the shower just to make sure that it was okay — even though it was waterproof.” Solid choice by Papa Bublé as we know very well that wearing a Rolex in the shower isn’t the best idea.

HUMBLE UPBRINGING

Despite being an avid Rolex ambassador, Michael often says that he has never really been a materialistic person, and that he came from a “hard-working, blue-collar family.” He wears a Rolex today to show how far he’s come and how much he has succeeded. Much like his father, he also claims to never take off his Rolex, wearing it in the shower just like his father did.

Likely because of his humble roots and earnest upbringing, Michael is the type of guy to want to share the wealth instead of horde it. He has been known to give members of his band Rolex watches when they’ve reached important milestones. He even gave a Rolex to his grandfather's doctor, who he credits for saving his life.

MORE THAN JUST A WATCH

Wearing a watch can represent so many things. It can be a symbol of status, success, or even gratitude. It can be a reflection of your values, interests, achievements and hobbies. It can be something reminiscent, like Michael Bublé’s music that makes you nostalgic for the past.

Watches, especially Rolex watches are something we should value and cherish in more than just an investment type of way. We should take care of our watches by preserving the original bracelet, and keep them safe and protected in a high quality watch roll. Celebrating your watches and enhancing their unique features is a great way to show your personality and gratitude this holiday season, and in the new year.
