The Yema Superman Bronze with CMM.10 Movement (Limited Edition)
At Windup Watch Fair in New York, I had the pleasure of seeing Yema’s latest creation in the metal: the limited edition Superman Bronze. Aside from its case material, this watch sets itself apart from the rest of the Superman collection with its movement: the Calibre Manufacture Morteau 10, or CMM.10. The Superman Bronze pays homage to Yema's history while modernizing the silhouette with a unique case material and state-of-the-art movement.
Bronze, a Metal with Character
This limited edition Superman is not Yema’s first parlay with bronze; they’ve also used the material for the Navygraf and Superman GMT. Known for developing a unique patina over time, bronze brings a distinctive character to each watch, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Exposure to water only expedites this process, making a dive watch the perfect application for the material. As the watch ages, it tells a story, capturing the adventures and experiences of its wearer. But don’t worry – bronze patina is reversible with some lemon juice or vinegar.
Functionality Meets Elegance
Retaining the signature elements of the Superman series, the limited edition Superman Bronze is a robust, tool-oriented timepiece. The bezel lock, a feature that’s defined the Superman since its inception, ensures that the timing bezel isn't accidentally turned while diving. Speaking of which, the Superman’s 300 meters of water resistance is more than enough for recreational and professional divers alike. Despite these beefy specs, the Superman maintains a slim profile and neo-vintage skin diver styling.
The Movement: Yema CMM.10
The Superman Bronze proudly houses Yema's cutting-edge manufacture caliber CMM.10. The movement exceeds chronometer standards at -3/+5 seconds per day, features a transversal balance bridge with Incabloc shock absorbers, and a non-magnetic balance wheel and hairspring. It also features 70 hours of power reserve. The movement's bridges feature a beautiful black galvanic treatment, showcasing Yema's dedication not only to performance but also to the aesthetics of watchmaking. This movement is designed and developed by Yema in Moreteau, France. Its components are produced in-house with the exception of the regulating organs, which are sourced from across the Jura Mountains in Switzerland. With the inclusion of this manufacture movement, Yema changed the dial text to read "MANUFACTURE FRANÇAISE," emphasizing the watch's French heritage and the brand's dedication to in-house craftsmanship.
Dial, Strap, and Sizing Options
The Superman Bronze can be had with a blue gradient dial or a deep lacquered black dial. Personally, I prefer the black option: it looks particularly stunning paired with the black FKM rubber tropic strap. Of course, the blue dial comes with a matching blue FKM rubber tropic strap. Both colors are available in 39mm or 41mm, as is standard with the Superman collection.
Availability and Conclusion
As Yema continues to innovate and expand their Superman collection, the Superman Bronze emerges as a captivating blend of heritage and modernity. With its bronze case, size/dial optionality, and advanced movement, this is in many ways the ultimate Yema Superman. Whether you're a seasoned diver, watch enthusiast, or both, the Yema Superman Bronze is a must-have for lovers of horology. The watch is available for pre-order starting today (and ending on November 17th) on Kickstarter.
