New Yacht-Master Ref: 116622

Rolex launched the new 116622 Yacht-Master at BaselWorld 2013. The new 116622 came with many changes from the previous model and received an overwhelming reception by watch dealers and enthusiasts from around the world. One quick note is the new Super Case which has thicker lugs . Also, the watch comes with two face options, I think the new SunRay cobalt blue dial is a killer. You don’t have to be a yacht owner to appreciate the new Rolex Yacht-Master; it comes rather easy. It’s offered in platinum and steel called “rolesium.” The invention of the patented water proof oyster case dates back to 1926 and is undeniably Rolex’s hallmark invention thanks to the case being as water tight as a clam and the new Yacht-Master certainly carries on that tradition most honorably.

The Yacht-Master was originally introduced in 1992 Ref(16628) when Rolex wanted to make it pretty much made as a higher end time piece of the popular Submariner . The 16628 version came with a white dial and a 3135 movement, identical movement also found in the submariner of the time. The original Yacht- Master was good to a depth of 320 feet or 100 meters thanks much in part to its patented triple lock down crown and its patented oyster water tight case mechanism.

Rolex has always offered multiple options in terms of luxury and looks, be it gold, platinum, steel or a combination of them , how ever this new Yacht-Master is where Rolex takes it to a whole new level utilizing Rolesium. Rolesium is individual to this particular Yacht-Master. The case and bracelet remain stainless steel (904L) but the bezel is pure gorgeous 950 platinum. Not completely pure but close enough. The brightly polished platinum is unmistakable Rolex at first glance. Complimented with a stunning cobalt blue face. Whether you sail the high seas or prefer to watch a regatta from the comfort of an air-condition yacht club – in my opinion is that the new 40mm Yacht-Master is the watch to own.

If you prefer a more mid-sized version you can seek out the Ref(69628) or better known as the three quarter sized model that was introduced in 1994.
