Mother's Day Special

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and this year, choosing a gift is harder than ever. With most of the world stuck inside their homes, you may be asking yourself, “How can I find her a great present without seeing it in person?” The answer is simple: the gift is already in your house! You know that Submariner she’s always complimenting you on? It would look great on her. Imagining your vintage watches on her wrist? Gorgeous. A far too often overlooked fact in the watch world is that women love watches, too! 

Although in the past, “ladies’” watches were always microscopically dainty (and virtually illegible); in recent years, women’s preferences have been trending towards larger “men’s” watches. Everyone knows that Giorgia Mondani has a collection any of us would give our firstborn (and maybe second, depending on the day) for, but what about all the other women who love watches? We asked several of our lady friends in the watch world to tell us their favorite things about the industry, and why. Here is what they told us: 

The most popular watch brand among women we talked to was, no surprise, Rolex; however, their everyday watches ranged from Rolex to Monta to Patek Philippe! Brigitte Fong, from Everest Authorized Dealer Brightime by Championtime in Singapore, swears by her Aquanaut 5167A-001 and wears it everyday; whereas, you won’t find Megan Ostridge, of Hubcity Time in Canada, without her 16623 Two-Tone Yacht-Master or blinged out Datejust with diamond bezel. While the daily wear watches are drool-worthy enough, the list of dream watches we got back is even more amazing: Breitling Montbrillant Datora Chronograph, Vintage Rolex Red Submariner, Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark, BLNR, Panerai Marina Luminor, BLRO, an MB&F, Richard Mille, and Patek Philippe Nautilus, just to name a few. 

When asked WHY they love watches, the women we talked to had answers that varied from the amazing history of the watch world, to adopting their father’s love of watches, to being able to change up their look with a single watch by dressing it up or down with different accessories. A white or pink Everest Rubber Strap on a Rolex Submariner or Monta Atlas is a great way to dress down and add a feminine spin to a larger men’s watch. A Chestnut or Tan Leather strap is the perfect accessory for a dress and heels. If you have a Datejust that doesn’t see the light of day much anymore, have a custom diamond bezel installed and give it to her! 

While the watch industry is most definitely not catered to women, the 38-40mm sports watches for men are becoming more and more appealing to us - especially now that there are so many options out there for customization. This Mother’s Day, don’t forget about that! Make your Hulk a bit lighter and brighter with a white rubber strap and share it with her.
