Mikael BOURGEOIS Watches
Mikael BOURGEOIS Watches is an eponymous brand which launched in France in 2012. Founder Mikael Bourgeois has been an independent watch designer for nearly two decades, working for several brands. With that experience, he decided it was time to strike out on his own with the release of his three-hander, the Thunderbird I four years ago.
Mikael started his Thunderbird II chronograph design in April 2015, with design and development continuing through last summer. Finally ready for prime time, he launched his Kickstarter campaign just this month. He’s aiming to be funded at €140,000 ($156,479) by June 27, with production and assembly taking place through the rest of the summer. The first watches will be delivered in October of 2016.
The Thunderbird II features a fresh avant-garde design, with a unique case closure system which uses bezels front and rear as clamps held by four screws. This creates a case of 43mm diameter, water tight to 30 meters. The movement inside is a Valjoux 7750 base with has been modified with a partially skeletonized custom signed rotor. Sapphire crystals front and back and a black hand stitched alligator strap on a butterfly buckle complete the look.
Mikael has set stretch goals for his Kickstarter campaign of a Lady Thunderbird (€168,000) and a Thunderbird GMT (€196,000). The Kickstarter campaign itself is pretty low risk, with a first series of the watch having already been produced.
Get ‘em while they’re hot folks, you’ve got four weeks!
