Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo is a Fashion Watch for Watchmaking Snobs

To its credit Bulgari is known for its jewelry handbags and fragrances more than its watches. But when it released super-thin Octo Finissimo in satin-finished steel, Bulgari’s new version of its popular model became a strong contender in the luxury steel sport watch category.

This is a category that has been red hot, and even if you have the cash in hand, it’s impossible to get an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Patek Philipe Nautilus or any Rolex in the category. Bulgari’s offering retails for $11,800, well below the aforementioned models from those prestigious brands.

Complete with its 60-hour power reserve caliber BVL 138 Finissimo movement and 100 meter depth rating, the satin steel Octo Finissimo has a look that stands out with eye-catching elegance. It’s octagonal case shape, small seconds hand and delicate 12 and 6 numeral font give it an air of refinement. The black lacquered dial provides a nice contrast with the satin finish, resulting in masculine esthetic on the wrist.

Get over the fashion watch tag

A common thread among very smart and knowledgeable watch experts is the motto “buy what you like.” Don’t feel compelled to have to own a watch from a brand just because it flaunts horological tradition. The Octo Finissimo, judged on its own merits, is one of the most handsome watches we’ve come across. One of our staff members declared it his favorite watch of Baselworld 2019 (back when we could travel and go places together).

When considering your next watch purchase, use your gut. Of course look at the specs vs. price to make sure you are getting your money’s worth. But ultimately if what’s on your wrist makes you smile, then you can judge its true value to your life.

What it says about its wearer

If you decide that the satin steel Octo Finissimo is going to be your signature wrist wear, it will be a strong choice that you are self-assured and have refined tastes. It’s the watch of choice for the man who feels equally at home taking in opera at the Teatro Alla Scalla or sitting ringside at the MGM Grand.

One of our favorite ways to wear a nice watch is with an overtly casual outfit. In no way would we feel uncomfortable wearing a steel Octo Finissimo with basketball shorts and a tank top. There’s something about a subtle flex for those in the know that really resonates with us.
