Rolex Oyster Perpetual Clasp and Bracelet Options – The Oyster, Jubilee and President Bracelet and Clasp

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Clasp and Bracelet Options – The Oyster, Jubilee and President Bracelet and Clasp

Rolex has developed many different steel, gold and platinum variations of clasps and bracelets for their different Oyster Perpetual line of watches. The current Oyster Perpetual line of watches from Rolex has four different bracelet options: the Oyster bracelet, the jubilee bracelet, the President bracelet and an alligator leather bracelet that either uses an Oyster style clasp or the new Crown clasp. Let us first take a look at the Oyster bracelet and clasp options that Rolex offers.

Oyster bracelet and clasps for Rolex

The Oyster bracelet and clasp comes on the far majority of Rolex sport and dress watches. The Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Datejust and Datejust II, GMT Master II, Explorer I and Explorer II, Yacht-master and Yacht-master II, Skydweller, Milgauss, Deepsea and the Daytona all have an Oyster bracelet and clasp of some sort. The Oyster bracelet is a flat across three piece link that was derived during the 1950s by Rolex. Even though each bracelet may start at a different dimension lug width wise – 20mm, 21mm or 22mm, they all taper to 16mm wide at the clasp. One feature that is not commonly mentioned is that all Oyster clasps are interchangeable.

Also, each Oyster clasp has a special extra length adjustment on it, that allows for the user to quickly add or subtract to the size of the bracelet. For the diving models, the Sea-dweller, Submariner and Deepsea, all utilize a diver’s extension system. You can read more about the Rolex Oyster Glidelock system here. The other more common extension system is the Easylink, which is a brilliant little extension of about 5-6mm of adjustment. Without any tools whatsoever one can easily adjust the clasp and bracelet to a larger length with the Easylink, Diver’s Extension or the Glidelock system. One other feature of notoriety on many of the Oyster clasps is the Flip Lock. This extra locking / clasp catching mechanism ensures that the clasp will stay closed and secure on your wrist.

Another iconic bracelet design offered on the Rolex Datejust, other then the Oyster bracelet system is the Jubilee bracelet. The Jubilee bracelet was derived by Rolex specifically for the Datejust model and was released in 1945. The Jubilee bracelet is a five across link rolled design. The same look is still available today on the Oyster Perpetual Datejust. Originally, the Jubilee Bracelet had a single flat deployment clasp, but now has evolved into a concealed Crown Clasp design.

Rolex president bracelet

The last metallic clasp and Bracelet system now offered by Rolex is only offered on the Day-Date, and a few of the all gold models of the Datejust, and is known as the President Clasp and Bracelet. This Semi-circular three piece link was created in 1956 for the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date. Many believe that this is the most comfortable of all of the Rolex bracelet and clasp systems. The President Clasp has always been a hidden or concealed Crownclasp design. Many Rolex enthusiasts and owners even refer to the Day-Date model as the President due to the unique look of the bracelet and because of it commonly worn by high ranking politicians and dignitaries.
